Carmel (articulated CAR-muhl) is a town in Putnam County, New York, United States. As of the 2010 statistics, the town had a populace of 34,305. The Town of Carmel is on the southern outskirt of Putnam County, adjoining Westchester County. There are no joined towns in the town, despite the fact that the villas of Carmel and Mahopac each have populaces sizable enough to be thought of as towns. The town was settled around 1740 by George Hughson.
